Burned Out-Stressed Out Healers

What holistic healers should be teaching their clients is how to cope with stress in their lives, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. It is impossible to rid one of stress completely, but we can deal with it differently. Stress not effectively dealt for too long undermines the immune system and so leads to burn out or illness.

People whom are ill, sick, or burned out, are not only people who have been coping with the stress in their lives, they are often people who are more sensitive to stress than others. We may be born physically weaker than most, or less laid back than others, thus more sensitive to mental stress.

We can also be brought up in a household, which does not teach proper coping skills in dealing with stress, or to bottle up our emotions, which causes stress.

Healers get stress in their lives, just like others, and they often get it because they devote too much time to their clients and too little time to themselves. It is very easy to be the busy, busy, healer, helping one client after another. Helping others can also be very good for self-esteem, however too much dedication to clients can lead to burnout.

On the physical level the body needs cleansing, exercise and a diet rich in organic foods. Having a physical body that is well nourished is important for the healer. As well as a clean and well-nourished body we need to breathe in an easy relaxed manner, as to calm both body and mind.

1. On the mental level we need to realize that we can change the way in which we deal with difficult people, situations and events in our lives.
2. We need to express our emotions, not bottle them up.
3. We need to be more assertive, when others try to push their ways on us. We must learn to tune into our bodies natural self-healing abilities, to train the body to send healing messages, rather than stress messages.
4. We must practice visualization as a means of using the power of our minds with the self-healing powers of our bodies.
5. We should use meditation as a way of stilling our lives and slowing the pace of our lives.
6. Above all we need excitement, laughter and fun in our lives, for this shuts out stress and turns on our self-healing powers.

Holistic healing is about the conscious, positive use of mind over matter. We must learn to use our minds positively. So often, we use our powerful minds, to stress ourselves out, and then wonder why we fall ill. Finally we need to put time, effort and concentration into the holistic therapies we practice. Some clients, and healers are not prepared for this.

As healers we need to set examples of self-healing for clients and others to follow. By doing so we are reinforcing the healing concepts that we believe in as healers, and helping educate clients and consumers on changing their patterns toward better health and less stress. So here's to a less stressful life, and a more healthier world.
